...sign of our times...
Upon being handed a journal as a gift, a nine year-old asks his mom what it was. The mom says that it was a notebook to record his thoughts and feelings, every day. The kid replies, "You mean, it is a blog...on paper." Reader's Digest, Oct 2008 issueThe Double-edged "Personal Belief" System
When someone tells you to “get real” or “come back to reality,” it really means that you have to come back to your “belief system” no matter how limiting it is or has been!
For example, when you are feeling euphoric, optimistic, you come up with these “crazy” ideas. You feel good about them; your imagination has no bounds. Then, you make the mistake of sharing it with someone who most likely will ask you to “come back to earth.” Has this happened to you several times? It has, for me.
You see, we all have our “personal belief” systems running on “auto.” Then, something you see, feel, touch, imagine lends wings to a thought or idea that soars high into the world of possibilities. That is the moment you operated outside of “your belief” system.
Now, if you can continue to maintain that state in your mind, then the idea will still have potential. But, when you are asked to “come back to earth” by someone else (or yourself most of the time), that is when you start coming to believe in the limitations contained within your belief system, and the idea dies.
A “Belief” system surrounds everything and everyone. It should be our aim to transcend it by using our imagination, questioning our insidious and invisible assumptions. That is the only time when we grow. Try it.
